Barton Library

When S Saxon Barton, the founder of the Society, died in 1957, he left his collection of Ricardian books to the recently re-founded Society, and these twenty-one volumes formed the nucleus of the collection later to become known as the Barton Library in his memory.

Over the years, the collection has grown by purchase and donation under the care of the first Honorary Librarian Mrs Olivia Wigram, and after her death in 1970, of Mrs Carolyn Hammond, who held the post of Librarian until 2001. The continuing expansion of the Library has meant that the collection of novels has been housed separately since 1988, and in 2001 the non-fiction collection was divided into two parts: books and papers. Complete catalogues of the stock in each section of the Library are available.

The Librarians will be happy to advise you on which books or papers to choose, to carry out quick searches for information or to supply photocopies – if this can be done without infringing copyright.
