Fiction - Richard III Society

The period of the Wars of the Roses has always been a favourite with historical novelists and the controversy surrounding Richard III has generated some classic novels such as ‘The Daughter of Time’. This section of the Library contains about 440 novels set in the fifteenth century or featuring ‘Ricardian’ themes.

The Fiction Catalogue lists all the novels in the Barton Library, arranged alphabetically by author. These are available to view by clicking on the arrow (>) next to Fiction on the sidebar menu.

Each entry gives:

the author
the title
whether the book is hardback or paperback
the date of publication
a brief outline of the story.

There is also a catalogue for short stories.

Terms & Conditions of Lending

The Library is provided for the benefit of all members of the Society.
How: When ordering, please provide your full name, address and postcode in block capitals (an email address or telephone number is useful in case of queries), and also the author(s) and the full title of the item(s) you wish to borrow.
Delivery: Books may be collected personally or sent by post to members anywhere in the UK. Old and/or rare books can only be borrowed if they can be collected and returned in person. If you are collecting, please make an appointment before calling.
Overseas: We regret that because of the risk of loss or delay in the post, overseas members may borrow papers but not books, and recommend overseas members to use the catalogue as a reading list and to check the library facilities of their local Society branch and/or public library or availability of books.
How many?: Up to two books may be borrowed at one time.
Duration: You may keep the books for up to a month from the date when you receive them. This period of loan may be extended on application to the Librarian, provided that the items are not required by other members.
Postage: Postage must be paid both ways by the borrower. Do not send any money when making requests but note the amount from the stamps used on the wrapping and enclose either stamps (preferably) or a remittance for the same amount when you return the items.
Return: Please return the books securely wrapped against the hazards of the post in the original packing – if re-usable – or in padded envelopes or other padded wrapping materials.
