Barton Library

Non-Fiction Papers

This section of the library comprises about 2,500 booklets, essays and articles from journals covering the same topics and range of levels as the book collection.

Please send your requests for non-fiction papers and information to the Non-Fiction Papers Librarian Joanna Iddison at JoannaRIII@hotmail.com.

The Non-Fiction Papers catalogue is divided into seventeen sections, according to subject. These are available to view by clicking on the arrow (>) next to Non-Fiction Papers on the sidebar menu.

Each entry gives:

  • the title
  • the author
  • details of the journal or book from which the item was taken or just the date of publication in the case of pamphlets
  • synopsis of the subjects covered

To save space the titles of some of the most frequently quoted journals have been abbreviated as follows:

BIHR – Bulletin of the Institute of Historical Research

BJRL – Bulletin of John Rylands Library

Terms and Conditions of Lending

  • The Library is provided for the benefit of all members of the Society.
  • How: When ordering, please provide your full name, address and postcode in block capitals (an email address or telephone number is useful in case of queries), and also the author and the full title of the item(s) you wish to borrow.
  • Delivery: Papers are sent by post to members anywhere in the world. Providing this does not infringe copyright regulations, photocopies (charged at cost) or scans can be supplied. In this case the paragraphs on duration of loan, postage refunds and returning the papers do not apply. Please note that when scans are supplied, members will be reminded that copyright rules and regulations are applicable to their use of the contents.
  • How many: Up to four papers may be borrowed at one time.
  • Duration: You may keep the papers for up to a month from the date when you receive them. This period of loan may be extended on application to the Librarian provided that the items are not required by other members.
  • Postage: Postage must be paid both ways by the borrower. Do not send any money when making requests but note the amount from the stamps used on the wrapping and enclose either stamps (preferably) or a remittance for the same amount when you return the items.
  • Return: Please return the papers securely wrapped against the hazards of the post in the original packing – if re-usable – or in strong well-fitting envelopes.
