Non-Fiction Books

This collection includes approximately 1,100 books on the late fifteenth century: biographies, chronicles, social, cultural, political and military history, literature, drama and poetry. The range covers standard reference books, transcriptions of primary source material, general illustrated histories and children’s books.

The catalogue is divided into twelve sections, according to subject. These are available to view by clicking on the arrow (>) next to Non-Fiction Books on the sidebar menu. Within each section the items are arranged alphabetically by author, except in the biographical section where they are under the names of the people being written about and then alphabetically by author; and Primary Source Material which is divided into Calendars, Chronicles and Letters, and then alphabetically by author.

Each entry gives:

• the author
• the title
• whether the book is hardback or paperback
• the publisher and date of publication
• includes a synopsis of the subjects covered

Terms & Conditions of Lending

• The Library is provided for the benefit of all members of the Society.
• How: When ordering, please provide your full name, address and postcode in block capitals (an email address and/or telephone number is useful in case of queries), and also the author and the full title of the item(s) you wish to borrow.
• Delivery: Books are sent by post to members anywhere in the UK. Old and/or rare books can only be borrowed if they can be collected and returned in person. If you are collecting, please make an appointment before calling. In some cases, and providing this does not infringe copyright regulations, photocopies (charged at cost) or scans can be supplied. In this case, the paragraphs on duration of loan, postage refunds and returning the books do not apply.
• Overseas: We regret that because of the risk of loss or delay in the post, overseas members can borrow papers but not books, and recommend overseas members to use the catalogue as a reading list, and to check the library facilities of their local Society branch and/or public library for availability of books.
• How many? Up to two books may be borrowed at one time.
• Duration: You may keep the books for up to a month from the date when you receive them. This period of loan may be extended on application to the Librarian, provided that the items are not required by other members.
• Postage: Postage must be paid both ways by the borrower. Do not send any money when making requests but note the amount from the stamps used on the wrapping and enclose low denomination or first class/second class stamps for the same amount when you return the items.
• Return: Please return the books securely wrapped against the hazards of the post in the original packing – if reusable – or in padded envelopes or other padded wrapping materials. Please use second class post, not recorded delivery.
